Fostering Futures' diversity Statement:

At Fostering Futures, we celebrate difference and we strive to create an environment where every person feels comfortable expressing their authentic selves and are able to celebrate their strengths, differences, and struggles with compassion, empathy, and vulnerability. We envision a community that sees people for who they are, where they are, everything they are, and stands with them to be the best they can be. We want to be an integral part of our community and its change.

Fostering Futures welcomes all families and individuals to the agency. We celebrate diverse backgrounds including people of all: races, ages, ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic status, marital status, abilities and disabilities, religious affiliations, sexual orientations, gender identity or gender expressions.

Internally, Fostering Futures works hard to create an environment where people of any background feel comfortable exploring biases and looking at how that may impact the job we do. We hold space for employees to speak up and contribute to making workplace practices and policies more inclusive and equitable. Our staff continue building their capacity by learning and participating in up-to-date training each year to help inform their practice. We encourage them to take their personal and professional growth, and apply it in their everyday lives.

We value the unique perspective of our partners: parents, caregivers, children, MDHHS, service providers, courts, and many others. We try to approach each situation with the understanding that people are the experts of their own experiences, and they are the only ones who can create meaningful and sustainable change in their lives. Our goal is to be an active part of parents creating a stronger, healthier family system for children that can continue to develop for generations to come.

We serve our community from our hearts. We recognize that we are a part of a larger network that we can learn from and contribute to. As an active part of our community, we have a greater opportunity to advocate for the types of services our families need.

We commit to being vulnerable enough to fail and keep trying in everything we do, and acknowledge that there is always more work to do in the world of diversity, equity and inclusion.

HELP US FIND FOSTER FAMILIES OF COLOR!

One way Fostering Futures is working to fight inequality in foster care is through actively working to recruit families of color to serve as foster families. Please help us in these efforts by sharing and posting this flyer. Share the JPG version on social media, or print and post the PDF wherever families of color are likely to see it!
